Ben is getting ready for the World Games!

ben

Ben Green has been training since August for the World Games. He has been following a training plan that his cross country coach, Jenny Fry, prepared for him.  His plan includes walking 40 minutes a day, to and from his job at Safeway, four to five times a week, pushups and sit-ups three times a week, and walking to the YMCA to use the elliptical bike two or three times a week. He started doing the “hill climb” on the bike and has now reached and maintained his goal of biking for 70 minutes per session.

Occasionally Ben goes roller-skating with his brother, Andrew. He and his brother also go hiking, climb Mt. Si, run together to the Y, and play basketball at the Y. His next challenge is to start running around the track near his house with Andrew.

Ben’s ski team, the Skihawks, has a conditioning class once a week that he attends. There he participates in weight training, sprint drills, and core strengthening. Coach Tess pushes him to the limit with chair sit-ups.

Ben and Jenny are doing the snow dance so they can start training on the white stuff! His team starts skiing in early January but as soon as there is enough snow they’ll be on the mountain every weekend to get in extra practice for the World Games.

Thanks so much for your contribution that is helping Ben and other elite World Games athletes participate in this wonderful Special Olympics program.
